Small Community Sees Big Day of Giving – Give2Grow
- November 20, 2017
The 6th annual Give2Grow Gives Day concluded on November 16th, 2017. The Phelps County Community Foundation hosts the annual event. It was a very successful day of fundraising for the Nebraska community which raised over $608,000 for 70 area nonprofits! In total there were 2,337 donations received that helped make this a very special day.
According to the foundation’s website, “the last five giving days have allowed the Phelps Community Foundation to distribute more than $3.2 million to local nonprofits.” That is an impressive amount of funds raised for a small rural community. This is due, in part, to their engaged citizenry, which understands the importance and impact of giving back.
This article from Nebraska Rural Living quotes Vickie Klein, Executive Director of Phelps Community Foundation on the incredible buy-in Give2Grow has received from donors, “I can just be proud of our donors in Phelps County for understanding how important this is,” said Vickie Klein, PCCF executive director. “I don’t think we did anything extraordinary to make people want to give. I think they just understood the importance of giving.”
The article also provides a sense of the tangible impact donors have had on the community by listing a few projects that were born from the day, “A new 4-H beef barn, a splash pad for the children of Loomis and bronze art sculpted by a Holdrege native are just a few of the projects made possible through an event that encourages donors to give on a specific day.”
