#GivingTuesday is Here!
- November 28, 2017
#GivingTuesday has arrived. Giving Tuesday is an annual giving event that occurs the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. Giving Tuesday was started in 2012 by the 92nd Street Y and the United Nations Foundation in response to the commercialization of Black Friday and Cyber Monday. The event is described as a movement that promotes and engages ordinary citizens to give back. If last year’s numbers are any indication, the movement is growing fast. According to this article from NPR, Giving Tuesday raised $168 million in 2016, which was up 44% from 2015.
CiviCore is very happy to be supporting five Gives Days today for #Giving Tuesday. The CiviCore staff is monitoring all five events with excitement and enthusiasm as well as offering aid to our clients as they navigate the ins and outs of their events. The five Gives Days are listed below and are in alphabetical order. If you are interested in participating you can do so by following the links to the various event pages.
Giving Tuesday has garnered support from the international community. Though the event was started in the United States, This article on the Giving Tuesday website shows that 98 countries from around the world participated in the event in 2016. Pushing the movement internationally may have also caught the attention of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation which has thrown its hat in the ring this year by pledging to match up to $2 million.
