- November 1, 2018
- Colorado Gives Day, Incentive funds, Online fundraising, Scheduled giving
Community First Foundation will be hosting the 9th annual Colorado Gives Day on Tuesday, December 4th, 2018! CiviCore is thrilled to continue supporting our partners and friends at the Foundation by powering Colorado Gives Day through the CiviCore Giving Platform.
What is Colorado Gives Day?
Each December Coloradans come together as a community to provide support for nonprofits throughout Colorado during the Colorado Gives Day event. The 24-hour, online event encourages charitable giving by raising awareness for Colorado nonprofit organizations and provides an easy way to support them online through ColoradoGives.org, the CiviCore Giving Platform.
Since the event’s inception in 2010, Colorado Gives Day has raised a whopping $182 million for nonprofits. In 2017 alone, it raised over $36 million for more than 2,400 organizations! Colorado Gives Day’s growing network of donors has contributed to making the event one of the largest online giving movements in the country.
$1 Million Incentive Fund Catalyzes Giving
The leaders at Community First Foundation have been exemplary in their use of incentive funds. The $1 Million Incentive Fund (created in tandem by the Foundation and FirstBank) is one of the largest giving day incentive funds in the country. It is an example of the Foundation’s commitment to impactful giving, proactive leadership, and creativity in leveraging corporate partnerships.

Choosing Your Impact: Cause-based Giving and Donor Choice
Charitable giving is a personal act. Donors often choose to support nonprofits based on their personal connection to the organization’s mission. Many nonprofit organizations have several causes or issue areas they support that contribute to their mission.
Contributing to this, there is increasing evidence that donors, especially younger donors, give to nonprofits based on specific causes or issues that resonate with them personally. For example, the Colorado Generosity Project issued a report showing that 25% of Coloradans prefer to find a specific cause to support before they donate.
Cause-based donors do not have to work hard to find the causes and issues they care about on Colorado Gives Day; the “filter by cause” search feature on the nonprofits page allows donors to quickly filter the list of participating nonprofits by the causes and issues they wish to directly impact. In addition, participating nonprofits may offer the ability for donors to further target their gift to a particular group, cause, or project within that nonprofit’s organization, providing an additional level of choice for the donor.
How to Participate in Colorado Gives Day
Colorado Gives Day offers scheduled giving which gives donors the flexibility to plan their donations ahead of the event. Starting on November 1st, donors can search for local charities on ColoradoGives.org and schedule their donation. Make sure to select “CO Gives Day” as your donation type during checkout to ensure that your gift will process on December 4th, and count toward Colorado Gives Day!

Participating on the day of Colorado Gives Day is as easy as heading to the event website, ColoradoGives.org, between the hours of 12:00 AM and 11:59 PM MST on December 4th. Find your favorite nonprofit(s) and causes, and donate!
